Changing location of php error log file and modify folders rights for IUSR

$

Hello,

I use PHP Version 5.3.19, Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP 1 and Internet Information Services 7.5.7600.16385.

My Problem:
I can't change the php error log file location.
When I try that and restart the iis service my web app cannot be opened.
Browser says 500 - Internal server error.

I tried everything.

I checked the error logs of windows and the iis error log.
Nothing! Is this possible?

I was able to change the locations of the php session data folder and the php upload temp folder, no problem.
(I created a folder C:\myapplication\mycompany\temp and gave this new folder all necessary rights, so the iis IUSR can do everything.)

So: The new locations of php session data folder and php upload temp folder work after restart of iis service! That's fine!

But I cannot change the location of the php error log file. Why?
It is the same new windows folder having the ultimate rights.

I testet a little bit with different text files.
I created new and empty log files, tested with the original php error log file from C:\Windows\Temp. Nothing. And I really restarted iis service after every change of the php.ini. But in the end: Browser says 500 - Internal server error when browsing the web app.

So, what can I do? I don't understand what's wrong.

Hope somebody could help me.

Thomas

2008r2 FTP Hangs for one profile but not for another?

$

Server is 2008R2 - Running IIS 7.5.7600.16385

I have a simple FTP site. I have two local accounts setup. Let's call them User Alpha and User Delta.

When FTP'ing to the server, response is always very quick and it prompts from the credentials. Entering the credentials for Alpha instantly logs me in and into the root directory of the same name. Entering credentials for Delta hangs whilst authenticating. Sometimes, after about 5 seconds it will log in to the directory of the same name. Other times it hangs, time-outs and never gets any further. All subsequent connections under Delta now fail. Alpha remains fine. The FTP service is unable to be ended normally at this point so has to be brought down using taskkill. Only then is it then ok again until the next time. I've been a long time lurker on these forums and assistance has been invaluable - but I'm unable to find anything on this which is why I've started this thread. I've checked Symantec is not blocking etc. Pasv ftp rules enabled (connection is from an iSeries/AS400) in Firewall->Advanced. Nothing in the logs to suggest anything going wrong (unless I'm looking in the wrong place).

As a note - this was working fine for months and then these issues starting occurring for no visable reason (i.e. no patches applied, my profile is the only admin).

Hi,

Suddenly we started  getting HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable for a IIS 7 Production Website.

1. Website only works when Application Pool Identity is set to "Network Services" but didnot work when set as custom identity

2. Local User which which is used as custom identity , is member of IIS_IUSRS group and also member of Administrator group.

3. IIS_IUSRS and Custom Identity user have Read access to the web directory and Administrator have full access.

I am almost sure its is permission/privilege issue of IIS_IUSRs group but cant find what is missing and where ? Plesae help.

HTTP 400 (Invalid Hostname) for OWA - Exchange 2010

Hi,

I have an MS Exchage 2010 server (Win2k8R2) that when we try to use the https://servername/owa/auth/logon.aspx?replaceCurrent=1&url=https%3a%2f%2fservername%2fowa%2f URL it will throw a HTTP 400 (invalid hostname). I've check the authentication type and they match. I've checked the Forms service and it's running (though we don't use forms wased auth). I've run wfetch and get this output:

started....WWWConnect::Connect("server","443")\nsource port: 54702\r\n

finished.

Everything else that is Exchange related seems fine (OWA/ECP/etc), but not this URL. Nothing in the IIS log is very helpful either:

Anyone have any ideas or other tests I can run to resolve this annoyance?

Thanks!

IIS Proccessing time?

$

Hi everyone. I'm trying to troubleshoot some random application slowness. It happens random times. The DBA discarded all DB issues (timings are flaweless). In the IIS logging and Advanced llogging we have TIme-Taken from 10 to 200 seconds during the issue. This could be a network problem expect every other tool on the computer works ok.

I'm looking for some kind of monitoring tool that can log when IIS is finished processing a request and starts sending it through the network. TIme-taken includes network times :(

Anyone know something like this?

Thanks

Strange problem: IIS not accpting SSL Connection

$

Good day

My Configuration are as the following

2 Server 2008 R2 hosting a small custome webservice (5 files only) (NLB), both servers are done accpte SSLv2 connection (only SSLv3 and TLS as the auditor request)

This webservice using HTTPS with a valid certificate, everything is working OK, today one of the server simply stop accpting SSL connection, when the users try to reach the server they got a page not be displayed (Chorme say ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR)

I use netstat -an and found that the server is listenning to port 443, when I try to telnet the server on port 443, the connection is made but after 1 secound it drop the connection without any details

IIS logging have no data (no success or failure)

I used Wireshark to see if the server and client are able to use the same cipher and no mis match happenning, and also all using the correct cipher.

the only fix I found is to remove the HTTPS binding and set it again.( this problem happense twise in this month) and it should never happense again.

the problem with Windows Load Balance is it see that port is accessible on the Server that had the problem so it keep sending the requset to it (anyway, I stop the server from the array)

Why the server simply stop accpting SSL connection :(

net.tcp listener adapter stops responding

Hi,

I have following configuration:

WCF services are hosted  on IIS7 on Windows Server 2008. Net.tcp binding is used.

In production there are about 200 users working with local client application (WinForms) which connects to the fore-mentioned WCF services.

This can work fine for days or weeks, but occasionally WCF services stop responding. Apppool recycling do not help.

When I restart "net.tcp listener adapter" windows service - the application become responsive again.

Please help... Any ideas why this happens are very welcome, thanks ahead!

The server WCF configuration is below:

applicationHost.config corruption, 32bit system acting like x64

$

Windows 7 32-bit system. Heavy developer tools installations (VS2008,10, SSMS). IIS 7 has began to act as though it thinks its on a 64-bit install, specifically in terms of the applicationHost.config file. The user was trying to remove sites in IIS7 and it began to start throwing the error below:

Trying various replacements to repair this file were worthless. Viewing the file utilizing Visual Studio or a third party editor such as Notepad++ would show that the file was complete. Just for kicks and knowing of the infamous 64 bit files system replicators, I decided to view the file in windows notepad. Which did show the file was just cut off and EOF for some reason (see below):

It gets better, when you view the file in something like notepad++, it is completed. I even went as far as copying and pasting the rest of the config into windows notepad. It allows me to save it and re-opening it reflects the changes, but as soon as I attempt configuration changes within the IIS7 UI that would reflect in this file, I end up right back at the "not well-formed XML" error dialog in the first image.

This occurred to another developer's machine many months ago. We spent some time troubleshooting it, including removal and re-installation of IIS7 with no luck. The users machine was blown away and rebuilt then but we attributed it to possible OS corruption. Now that this has popped up again, we're concerned it may become a recurring issue. Unfortunately I cannot remember if the previous problematic machine was a 32bit or 64bit machine.

I've been scratching my head on this for weeks and after countless hours of see the same "fix" it doen't work for me.

Before I go any further I've added the Mime Type & Handler

  1. Click MIME Types and then add the JSON extension:
  2. File name extension: .json
  • MIME type: application/json
  1. Go back to the properties for IIS Server
    1. Click on Handler Mappings
    2. Add a script map
    • Request path: *.json
    • Executable: C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\asp.dll
    • Name: JSON

I've got a PHP file which respondes when i give it the information required but if i change it to .json i recieve a 404 I've turned on detailed error pages but seem to only get a standard 404 page unless i break the scriped i'll then recieved a detailed error page.

What information can i give to try help me get the response i require.

Hi, I am using IIS 6 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS.

> I am new to ASP.NET. I  tried to run default website located in wwwroot folder using localhost (http://localhost/iisstart.htm) but failed. Nothing is showing in the browser.

> I also created a website using HTML and tried to save it in "C:\inetpub\wwwroot" directory. But I got an error message saying that I do not have permissions to modify that folder and asked whether to save in "My Documents" folder atleast.

Anyway I saved this folder on Desktop and manually tried to copy to wwwroot folder. A message poped up saying to copy with Administrator permissions and I continued with it.

I also tried runnig this website using localhost and again faced the same probelm.

Help me how to reslove this problem.

Thank you in advance.

Worker process do not compeltely stops when AppPool recycles

$

Hi,

My .Net web application developed on .Net 4.0 is running in IIS 7.5, stops responding sometimes and when I did some trouble shooting, I found that under worker process in IIS Manager, there are multiple worker processes, but only one of them is in running state and others are in stopping mode. And these stopping processes are hanging with significant amounts of memory and cpu. And they are hanging until I restart the machine. But the ineteresting part is the app pool is allowed to have only one worker process at a time.

On further troubleshooting, I found that, whenever the app pool recycles the currently running w3p process gets into stopping mode and never stops. I confirmed this by manually recycling the app pool. Also I found few realted entries inthe event logs:

1. A worker process with pid 'xx' that serves application pool 'xxx' has been determined to be unhealthy but because a debugger is attached to it,

2. A worker process 'xx' serving application pool 'xxx' failed to stop a listener channel for protocol 'http' in the allotted time.  The data field contains the error number.

3. A process serving application pool 'xxx' exceeded time limits during shut down. The process id was 'xx'.

I am wondering why this is happening. Can anyone please shed somelight on this.

Thanks

w3wp.exe site id argument ignored on Windows 8.1

Today I had the pleasure to discover an problem which actually is an showstopper for me. The W3WP.EXE that comes with Windows 8.1 started in-debug mode still supports, but does no longer actually use the -s <SiteID> argument. It does not even notice, when I enter an absolutely wrong ID.  As long as it foms a valid number, the W3WP.EXE starts a web server. Unfortunately, it will always be the default Site ID 1, not the one you passed.

A quick check can be done by trying an Site ID number like 4711. If you get the message that the Site ID does not exist on your system, then it probably works. If not, then you got a problem.

Any idea how to work around that mess? I need the debug mode to start to different app pools/sites, because of different .NET frameworks.

IIS 8 Compilation Error - The compiler failed with error code -1073741818.

Hi All,

Fresh install of Windows 8.1, running IIS Express 8 and Visual Studio 2013.
I've not been able to run existing projects in debug mode through VS so I went back to the basics to troubleshoot.

I created a brand new web application and made no changes then 'ran' my application in debug mode and I get the error in the title.

I've uninstalled VS, done repair installs etc but it seems to be an IIS issue not VS.
I've uninstalled IIS Express 8 and re-installed, no luck. I've cleared temp files. I've uninstalled IIS, done .NET repairs etc. No luck.

Error as below:

"The compiler failed with error code -1073741818."

IIS 7: Strange behavior: Application Host Helper Service keep starting

$

I'm using IIS 7.0 and it's really strange after a normal reboot, Application Host Helper Service just keep starting. Reboot again, nothing change. Now all application pools are stopped, try to enable all manually -> no work.

There's no eventlog for it because it runs forever, a whole day just stay still with "Starting",

i tried to cleanup C:\inetpub\temp\appPools,  uninstall Windows Process Activation Service Feature and remove and reinstall IIS 7.0, IISReset reboot server many times...

still nothing changed even with 0 sites on IIS. Man i'm clueless now. Currenty i have to switch Identity in Applicationpools from ApplicationPoolIdentity to Network service to run sites. My server is up-to-date to system latest patch.

There's only this kind of log:

Application pool xxx has been disabled. Windows Process Activation Service (WAS) encountered a failure when it started a worker process to serve the application pool.
