webdav in IIS 8.5 working only with some access tools

$

Hello,

I have set up an IIS 8.5 on a windows 8 pro machine.

The webserver is reachable from the internet on https port 443.

Webdav is configured with windows authentification on the default website.

From a remote PC:

I can access the webserver using the internet explorer and browse files.

I can access the webdav folder using the net use command or using the windows explorer to create a network mapping (this is pretty slow sporadically).

I cannot (!!) map the webdav folder using the tool NetDrive (I am using this for other webdav sources fine).

From my mobile phone:

I can access the webdav folders with the apps Total Commander and File Sync

I cannot (!!) access the webdav folders with other apps like ES File Explorer

So why cant I use most of the webdav tools? Where is the difference to the working tools?

With my other webdav sources (on apache) I can use every tool without problems.

Maybe I am missing the right configuration here.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi,

We have recently upgraded a webserver that had 300 websites with their own application pools, for upgrading we have removed the iis service before upgrading. After the upgrade is completed I have tried to restore the sites using web deployment tool (without content), the resotration is sucessful but while browsing the sites the sites are not browsable and I see an error that says "Resource is currently unavailable". Event viewer says that "unable to load all the ISAPI filter for the app pool XXX).

Anyone has any clue whats going on ? I have been banging my head with this issue for the past 2 weeks, any help would be greately appreciated !

Windows 7 client, IIS6/W2K3 server. Webdav problems

$

While rolling out windows 7 we have run into this problem. The internal web site is windows 2003 R2 and IIS6. All of the site permissions are being handled through FPAdmin and everything looks right.

When I try to add a network location on the W7 client, some sites open fine, some open read only and some I cannot access at all.

I have added permission directly to the folders with no success.

So my realy question is it even possible for a W7 client to have a proper WebDav connection to an IIS6 server on W2K3?

I was just not quite ready to migrate the site to W2012 and iiswhatever.

IIS 8.5 Compatibility with VStudio 2003 ISAPI Module

I'm trying to port an old VStudio 2003 MFC ISAPI extension dll app to Windows Server 2012.

I've enabled the ISAPI extension on IIS manager, given permissions etc but get a 500.0 error when trying to run.

As the dll is quite complex, I built a new MFC  'hello world' dll in VStudio 2003 installed  on a Windows Server 2012 test server but still same result. I'be tried altering project configurations but no effect.

I'm wondering is there some compatibility issue with MFC ISAPI extensions and Windows Server 2012.

Dump of IIS Error Tracing Log below..

I posted to VStudio forum and was asked to place the question here.

Any advice welcome.

Permission issues with new forum

Hello,

I have recently setup a Server 2008 R2,  running IIS7.5.

Last night I installed PHP 5 /fastcgi/ MySql for my IPB 3.4.5 software..  Everything is starting up fine.. Except!

When the IPB software checks write permissions for the cache and hook folders.. It comes back saying I need to CHMOD 777 for each of those folders..

I have tried going into those folders in the security tab and adding the IIS_IUSRS with full control.. yet.. I keep getting the same error..

Is there something I am missing?

I figure it has to be something simple I am overlooking..

Any input would be great..  I had the same issue on my old 2003 server.. and solved it by simply adding the write permission to those folders and would run no problem...

Ill see if I can upload snap shots..

Unexplainable Appdomain restarts

$

Hello

I have a website that's very often does AppDomain restarts, this causes all sessions to be lost. As far as i've manged to figure out, this is the primary suspects in case of appdomain restarts:

  1. Modification in Machine.Config, Web.Config or Global.asax files
  2. Application's bin directory or its contents modified
  3. Antivirus is running on the  .config /.aspx files
  4. The number of re-compilations (aspx, ascx or asax) exceeds the limit specified by the <compilation numRecompilesBeforeAppRestart=/> setting in machine.config or web.config  (by default this is set to 15)
  5. The physical path of the virtual directory is modified
  6. The CAS policy is modified
  7. Sub-Directories of Application are deleted or renamed

I've manged to rule out all of them, and is therefor in need for help to figure out what's causing the appdomain restarts.

A small breakdown of the points:
1) I've searched the whole computer for files that got modified or changed before the appdomain restarts, machine, web or global.asax is not one of them.
2) Same as abow, no changes
3) Tried to disable antivirus all together
4) I thought this was the problem, but since we have to web-front-ends, I adjusted numRecompilesBeforeAppRestart on one server to a very low value, and the other server to a very high value, the problem seems to occur just as often on both of them.
5) I can't imagine that his happens
6) I dumped the CAS policy before and after an appdomain restart, and can't see any changes
7) This does not happens

I turned on  "Application lifetime events" in the web.config under .net framework in hope of that telling me something sensible. But no, it's only telling me "Application is shutting down. Reason: Configuration changed". Is there anything obvious I've left out? I can't see any changes to any config files, neither on application, site or server level.

I do suspect the application of doing this, but I can't prove it.

Any tips would be highly appreciated:)

WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service service logs 7449 entries in IIS Logs every 1 hour 7 minutes

$

This is interesting (and annoying) issue, which has been going on for a few months with no understanding on why it is happening.

From my research, the IIS logs on Windows Server 2008 R2 which also hosts Exchange 2010 has grown to around 40MB each day, luckly there is ample space on the system drive to copy with this.

The WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service service starts every 1 hour and 7 minutes.
3 seconds later after starting the following is recorded in IIS logs:

2014-03-03 08:21:39 ipaddress POST /Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml - 443 - ipaddress - 401 0 0 0
2014-03-03 08:21:39 ipaddress POST /Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml - 443 - ipaddress - 401 1 2148074254 0
2014-03-03 08:21:39 ipaddress POST /Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml - 443 DOMAIN\SERVERNAME$ ipaddress - 200 0 0 31

[ ipaddress, is the local ip address of the server ]

Followed by the same three lines 2483 times in 2 minutes.

2014-03-03 08:21:41 ipaddress POST /EWS/Exchange.asmx - 443 - ipaddress Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+MS+Web+Services+Client+Protocol+2.0.50727.5472) 401 0 0 0

2014-03-03 08:21:41 ipaddress POST /EWS/Exchange.asmx - 443 - ipaddress Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+MS+Web+Services+Client+Protocol+2.0.50727.5472) 401 1 2148074254 0

2014-03-03 08:21:41 ipaddress POST /EWS/Exchange.asmx - 443 DOMAIN\SERVERNAME$ ipaddress Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+MS+Web+Services+Client+Protocol+2.0.50727.5472) 200 0 0 889

Why is the WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service trying to hammer our Exchange Server every 1 hour 7 minutes.
We have no proxy server (see below) and our Exchange Server is 2010 SP3 with Update Rollup 2.

C:\>netsh winhttp show proxy

Current WinHTTP proxy settings:

    Direct access (no proxy server).

Any advice on stopping the WinHTTP Web Proxy increasing the IIS Logs would be appreciated.

Kind Regards

Users Experience Windows Authentication Prompt for Single ASPX Page Server 2012 IIS 8.5

$

I have an application published via IIS 8.5 on Windows Server 2012 that can leverage Windows-integrated credentials for SSO.  Users can successfully sign in to the application and navigate to the vast majority of aspx pages.  However, when users attempt to sign in to a particular aspx page, they receive a Windows authentication prompt where they must populate their domain credentials 10 literal times before it allows them to access the page.

From an IIS perspective, for the app's virtual directory, we have ONLY Windows authentication specified.  I can work around the problem if I turn on Anonymous Authentication (users are not prompted with the Windows Authentication prompt when they attempt to navigate to the aspx page), but this obviously breaks the end users' ability to sign in using Windows-Integrated credentials--which is unacceptable to them.  As such, I suspected this was some sort of an issue with NTFS/share permissions to one of the ASPX pages or the app's DLLs.  However, I've checked all of the relevant flat file permissions ad nauseum to no avail.

I have done the following: -I have checked the permissions for the aspx page users are attempting to access, and from an AD perspective, everything seems okay.  Users appear to have the correct permissions. -The issue does not occur when signed directly in to the app server. -Domain admins also experience the issue when signing in to the app via a client workstation. -Run a Fiddler and Wireshark trace, and as expected, I'm encountering a 401 error. -Issue does not occur for users who integrate into the app using non-Windows credentials.

I'm about out of ideas in terms of things I can check--does anyone else have any thoughts?

Some Certificates Not Working in IIS 8.0

$
0
0

I'm transitioning from IIS 6 to IIS 8.0.  I also have Certificate Authorities installed in the old server and the new one.  In the new server, both CAs are trusted.  However...

Only the client certificate issued by the Windows 2003 CA seems to work perfectly to authenticate to the new server using active directory mapping.

The client certificate issued by the Windows 2012 CA causes the following problems:

In Internet Explorer, the server responds "403 - Forbidden: Access is denied."  The Failed Request Tracing feature shows status code 403.7 and no other information.

In Chrome, the page will not load, and it throws ERR_CONNECTION_RESET.  At the same time, the server logs a System error from Schannel:

Event ID: 36888
Description:
A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection. The TLS protocol defined fatal error code is 40. The Windows SChannel error state is 252.

The only other thing I could think to check was the Active Directory side.  I confirmed both certificates are published for the user.  On the client, the user has private keys for both certificates, and they both appear in the list of certificates to send for the session.

Is the problem with the new certificates?  Or are they not mapping correctly for some reason?

Good Morning Everyone.

First I want you all to know that I appreciate any help that I can get.

I know a bit IIS but I am not an IIS admin or anything like that, so this might be an insignificant issue for some of you, here is the deal.

In my company's site we are having an issue with some links, based on what I know there used to be another admin here and when he got layoff and his ID was disable hell broke lose, the links in the website are not working, there are several links for people to download documents (by the way this is in the intranet) and when I click on any of them I get the error below, can somebody help me please?

As a matter of testing I tried to create a new link and call it "test" to see if maybe I can recreate all those links and get rid of the old config and with that the old admin pw, but I can see the folder and the document in the iis manager but I don't see the lin, I already restarted IIS.

Thank you very much.

Problems with Webdav on IIS 7.5 connecting to UNCpath - win-auth with passthrough

$

Hi guys!

I have a setup here I am having some problems with. To start things off:

  • We are running IIS 7.5.7600.16385 on a windows 2008 R2 SP1 (build 7601). (this is a new clean server just for this purpose)
  • I have set up the application pool to use a specific user account (in this test scenario, the domain admin account)
  • This domain admin account have a SPN: HTTP\IISserver(FQDN), and set up with delegation (trust this user for delegation to any service).
  • I have ONLY activated Windows Authentication, enabled kernel-mode auth, without extended protection. Providers in following order, NTML, Negotiate. I have also set "UseAppPoolCredentials" to True.
  • Autorization Rules: Allow, Users: *, Roles: blank, Verbs: blank, Entry Type: Local
  • Webdav Authoring Rules (webdav enables yes). Path: *, Users: *, Access: Read; Write; Source, Entry Type: Local.
I have also enabled all 3 properties (AllowAnonymousPropfind, AllowCustomProperties, AllowInfinitePropfindDepth)
  • The physical path of the application is set to \\FileServerFQDN\share$  (this is a NetApp virtual server). It is set up with Pass-through authentication. (if I try 'Test Settings' i get the error 'Invalid application path', but I have found evidence that tells me this is just a bug. When using 'Connect as' through an admin account it works fine)
  • The Share on the FileServer is set up with Share rights: Everyone full access. And ACL Everyone Full access (for the test environment). Note that there is one subfolder that does not inherit this to validate the function of the pass-through auth.
  • Site Bindings have been set to, Type: HTTP, Hostname: IISserverFQDN, Port: 80, IP Adresse: IISServerIPAdresse
  • The application is called Test
  • In advanced settings the 'Physical path credentials logon type' is set to 'ClearText'

The intended use for this is through mobile devices (Iphone,Ipad) through a MobileDeviceManagement system called MobileIron. The Ipad I am testing on is set to go through an apptunnel to connect to the Mobileiron server(same domain as IIS and FileShare), where it sends the webdav application through to the IIS.

So to start the testing..

Testnumbers

  1. If I try to map the application to a drive using CMD locally from IISServer: Net Use *HTTP://IISServerFQDN:80/test /USER:testuser password. Everything works as intended. The passthrough is working no problem, and the user is only seeing the folders he has access to.
  2. Use the IIS and browse the application (http://IISServerFQDN:80/test). This gave me the following error:
HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized. You do not have permission to view this directory or page because of the access control list (ACL) configuration or encryption settings for this resource on the Web server.

  4.  When I am doing these same tests using 'Connect as user' instead of 'Pass-through authentication' it connects instantly without any issues regardless of where I do it from. Only: this doesn't suffice due to the extended permissions that is given to the folders.

I realy can't see any reason why I am given these errors. Both the testuser and domain admin is a member of the IISServer's IIS_IUSRS AND the Administrators group. Is this basically just not supported, or is there something else that should be configured?

Anyone? =)

Best Regards,
Magnus

Slow first load

hi all,

we have a web site that runs on a windows server 2008 r2 with IIS 7.5 of course. this web site is very slow and it could take up to 1 minute and 30 seconds to load the first time we access it, but after that it's somewhat reasonable.

I looked in to AppWarmUp, which was released recently, but it turned out that this web site uses .net v2, which is not supported by the AppWarmUp module, so that's out.

I tried pre compiling the site by running appnet_comiler.exe -v /WebSiteName, which completes without any errors, but that still didn't help and the web site still loads very slow.

any ideas to help get this web site to load as fast the first time as the subsequent times is very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

MJ

IIS returning a 302 redirect for most paths in ASP.Net application

$
0

Hello, everyone.

Sometime yesterday afternoon, one of our QA servers (running IIS 7) has started returning a 302 redirect for almost every path in the application it's running.  Anything not requesting the /scripts or /service paths, or one of two specific controllers (call them OneController and TwoController), instead gets redirected to TwoController.

I've set up the Failed Request Trace to give me a trace on anything returning 302.  The ManagedPipelineHandler is the modile returning the redirect.  I'm relatively certain (80%?) that this means it's happening before the routes in the MVC application are consulted, so this is a server configuration problem, and not a code issue.  Once the redirect happens, TwoController happily performs its job and the rest of the trace looks fine.

I'm at a total loss as to where to look next.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
