IIS Manager has stopped working

Hi There,

I recently installed App Fabric on top of Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. I'm trying to deploy a workflow service inside it.
The problems comes up when open  IIS Manager, when clicking on the connection name of my machine in the top left corner I ge tthe next error:

Description:
Stopped working

I went to the logs but I couldn't find any related log to IIS manger or Web server (IIS) in fact the web server is still working and some services I deployed there are still working. So I assume is an incompatibility between AppFabric and IIS Manager.
Can somebody tell me where I can find more info about this problem? Is there any log that allows me to see what is going on inside IIS Manager because I'm finding very difficult to troubleshoot this problem.

EDIT: I recently found this file in one of the information logs of the log viewer.
The file was in  Windows\WER\ReportArchive\AppCrash_inetmgr.exe_fe8...

RE-EDIT-2: /InetMgr.exe /reset does not fix the problem.

I'm not sure to understand the problem, is not finding an operation on the machine throw PowerShell?
So some command has not been installed properly?

Thanks very much for the attention.

I set up a new WS2012 with IIS PHP and MySQL. I put two simple scripts and it all works great but from time to time a blank page is displayed, when I refresh 5 times, I can get it on the screen...

Any ideas? Anything basic? It is my first set up so please be patient ;-)

IIS 7

We recently installed a certificate as one site required SSL.  Now, whenever https:// is used, regardless of which site a user is trying to hit, it is redirected to the site that we got the certificate for.

http is fine.

https://secure.site.com is the site we have the certificate for, works fine.

http://site1.site.com works fine

https://site1.site.com shows the content for https://secure.site.com but the URL in the browser stays athttps://site1.site.com

My IIS admin is at a loss.

Any ideas?

WebDav application : Internal Server Error 500 Code=0x80070020

Hi all, I have got a system which seems to works fine but sometimes i encouter the following error : "ModuleName IIS Web Core Notification 2 HttpStatus 500 HttpReason Internal Server Error HttpSubStatus 0 ErrorCode 2147942432 ConfigExceptionInfo Notification AUTHENTICATE_REQUEST ErrorCode The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (0x80070020). " In fact, I have got a first application which only put files into a folder on my IIS defaultwebsite. This app put new files but it also doing refresh of files already present on the server. A another application (using an another ethernet interface) olny doing request on these files. It's cleary possible that we have simultaneous request : the first app request "PUT folder/currentfile.txt" to refresh the file, whereas the second app is doing a GET request on the same file. "GET folder/currentfile.txt" In the webdav seeting i try to modify the default "Require Lock for writing" to TRUE, but in this case i obtain the http error 403 when i try to do PUT requests. I also try to change the defaut port 80 but no change... Is anybody has an idea. how i can avoid this conflict ? I use IIS 7.5.7600.16385 on windows7 enterprise. Thanks in advance Anthony

Problem with language specific error pages

$

This is probably something very simple that I am missing. I have IIS installed on D drive with standard paths, so I have D:\inetpub\custerr. This has language specific subfolders in it for en-US, de-DE and es-ES. I have a custom 401 page to inform users that are not allowed in what to do to gain access. However, it doesn't matter what I set the language in my browser to I always get the en-US file.

I have changed the IIS error pages to point the 401 request to "d:\inetpub\custerr\<LANGUAGE-TAG>\Z-net-401.htm". I checked the box to tell IIS to try to find language specific subfolders.

The languages in the request are below, the browser is Chrome.

Accept-Language: de-DE,de;q=0.8,es;q=0.6,en-GB;q=0.4,en;q=0.2

I can see this in the failed request trace. I also see the en-US file being accessed:

FileName="d:\inetpub\custerr\en-US\Z-net-401.htm", UserName="", DomainName=""

There is a directory of d:\inetpub\custerr\de-DE that contains a file Z-net-401.htm but it is not served, the en-US one is.

Any suggestions welcome, like "hey, there's a checkbox you need to check to make this work dude".

Can't access Database -- Possible Application Pool issue?

$
0
0

I posted this to IIS6.0 thread and discovered that I'm running IIS 7.5 on Windows 7 Home Premium.

I'm finishing chapter one in WCF 4 Step-by-Step. I just finished configuring the IIS Manger. The app was running fine before but now I'm trying to publish the website and it seems it can't read from the Entity Model.

The book gives these clues or notes:

"If the address is correct but the application still fails, the most likely cause is that the account used by the application pool hosting the service does not have appropriate access to the AdventureWorks database. The account must be a member of the db_owner role in the AdventureWorks database. For examples of how to add an account with this privilege to the database, see the aspnet.sql script in the Microsoft Press\ WCF Step By Step\ Setup folder."

Yeah but i went THROUGH A LOT OF TROUBLE TO MAKE SURE THIS SCRIPT RAN as the book specified. So I don't understand what the problem is. How do i check to see if this has been done right?

This link looks like it has some related advice, but I don't know how to implement it.

http://forums.asp.net/t/1295298.aspx/1

http://www.codeproject.com/Questions/328554/IIS-hosted-website-cannot-access-database

I read this article but not sure what to do or if it applicable: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771170(v=ws.10).aspx

I really don't know what to do with this information.

This is all the Script was supposed to do:  (The app ran before i started configuring IIS.)

USE [AdventureWorks]
GO

Symptoms: The IIS application throws a 503 error, but the application pool is still running. The CPU of the application is around 0.23 percent and the memroy is 4G. It seems that the application The application does not process any Http request. It lasted up to one hour util we terminate the process and restart it.

                    IIS 7.0
                    .Net Framework 3.5

Another point, our application uses session state server, and state server throws an exception "The state server has closed an expired TCP / IP connection. The IP address of the client is 127.0.0.1. The expired Read operation began at 08/30 / 2013 10:02:00." However there is no other evidence in the Event Viewer of Web Server and Application.

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process" - FILE_CACHE_ACCESS_END

I have a situation on both IIS 7 and 7.5 with an application that is periodically throwing the above error.

To expand on the situation,

I have an application that is leveraging the "imageresizer" plugin by Nathanael Jones to pull images out of a database and cache them locally on the drive (for resizing purposes).

The issue that I am having is that when multiple clients are trying to access the same image w/in a 5 second period of time (anywhere from 5-12 clients) some of the clients are receiving a 500 error.

I enabled tracing on this application and what is coming back is the following:

121. -FILE_CACHE_ACCESS_END
Successful
false
 FileFromCache
false
 FileAddedToCache
false
 FileDirmoned
true
 LastModCheckErrorIgnored
true
 ErrorCode
2147942432
 LastModifiedTime

 ErrorCode
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (0x80070020)

If I scroll up farther in the stack this error appears to not be directly related to the imageresizer plugin but something in IIS's core file serving.  The error is followed directly after the "ManagedPipelineHandler" module ends.

If I attempt to view the image a second time, it displays just fine and only seems to be an issue on simultaneous access.

Does anyone have any suggestions that might be limiting the access to this file or any method to eliminate this issue?

Thank you

Getting temporary 500 errors when i overwrite files. Got any ideas?

When I put one of my .asp files after updating it, the website will display a 500 error message for about 15 - 20 seconds then show the updated page. I am also having a similar issue when i update a css file and overwrite the css file on the server. For about 15 - 20 seconds, the CSS on the website will look like it's not styled and then when i refresh, it will show the updated CSS. I am running Server 2008 R2 and IIS 7.5 If you have any ideas, please let me know as it is driving me crazy! Thanks again

Some request hang forever in ExecuteRequestHandler

$

Out of 100k hits/day on my ASP.net site, i sometimes (1-2 times per day) get a request that just hangs in the worker process, eating up 12.5% of the CPU until the AppPool is recycled.

I have tried to enable Failed Request Tracing, but I don't really any helpful data out (..or I'm not reading it correctly).

So I have a couple of questions:

  • I would very much like to be able to manually kill these bad requests without recycling the AppPool, but as far as I've been able to tell, that is not possible?
  • What's the best way of determining what the request was that triggered the hanging request? I thought Failed Request Handling could help me on that one, but I dont see any incoming HTTP in my logs. Other ways?
  • Any other good tips on how to debug a hanging request?

Thanks in advance,

/Thomas

IIS 7.5 have or need common files?

$

I had tried searching for this but didn't see anything. I have a windows server 08 and I have IIS installed. When I run MBSA on the server it stops scanning and says that The IIS Common Files are not installed on the local computer. It gives instructions on how to install it, but that is for Server 03 or XP via windows components. And this, I'm assuming is also referring to IIS 6 and not 7.5. Does 7.5 need common files? I don't see it as an option under roles. If it is needed, how do I install?

Thanks!
